Description

Piper mituense (also called Mitu Pepper, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the family Piperaceae. It is native to Colombia and Ecuador. It is found in wet montane forests at elevations of 1,000–2,000 m. It is a small shrub growing to a height of 1–2 m.

Piper mituense is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and as a natural insect repellent. It is also used to make a traditional medicine for treating fever, colds, and stomach ailments.
