Description

Platanthera bakeriana (also called Large Purple Fringed Orchid, among many other common names) is a species of orchid native to North America. It is found in moist meadows, bogs, and wet woods, from Newfoundland to Alaska, south to Pennsylvania and Oregon. It is a perennial herbaceous plant growing from a thick, fleshy rhizome. The leaves are basal, lanceolate, and up to 20 cm long. The inflorescence is a terminal raceme of up to 30 fragrant, white to pink flowers. The sepals and petals are fused and form a hood over the column.
