It is an epiphytic orchid, meaning it grows on other plants, usually in humid forests. It has an upright stem with long, narrow leaves and small, white flowers with yellow and purple markings.

Cyrtochilum portillae is a terrestrial orchid native to Central and South America. It can be grown in a pot or in the ground in a shady area.
