Description
Chloraea curicana (also called Chloraea, among many other common names) is a species of orchid native to the Andes of Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. It is found in wet montane forests and grasslands, at elevations of 2000-3000 meters. It has a single, thin, erect stem, with a single, large, green-brown leaf at the base. The flower has a yellow-green color, and is shaped like a star.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Chloraea curicana has yellow, bell-shaped flowers with a long, thin seed pod. The seeds are small and black. The seedlings are upright with long, narrow leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Chloraea curicana can be propagated by seed or division. Seeds should be sown in a well-draining soil mix and kept moist. Division should be done in the spring or fall when the plant is actively growing. Both methods should be kept in a warm, humid environment with indirect light.
