Description
Anathallis petersiana (also called Peters' Anathallis, among many other common names) is a species of orchid native to Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador. It grows in humid, shady forests at elevations of up to 1,500 m (4,900 ft). It has a small, compact habit, with short, fleshy leaves and small, white flowers.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Anathallis petersiana is a small white or yellowish flower with a short tube and five petals. The seed is a small, round, black seed with a white hilum. The seedlings are small and have a single, white leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Anathallis petersiana can be propagated by division or by seed. It prefers a light, well-drained soil and a position in part shade. It is best grown in a warm, humid environment with temperatures between 18-25°C (64-77°F). Water regularly during the growing season and keep the soil moist, but not soggy. Reduce watering in winter. Fertilize monthly during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer.
