Description
Acleisanthes nevadensis (also called Nevada Acleisanthes, among many other common names) is an annual herb with a slender, woody stem and a tuft of leaves. It is native to North America and grows in dry, open areas, such as grasslands and deserts.
Uses & Benefits
Acleisanthes nevadensis is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and as a ground cover. It can also be used to stabilize soil and prevent erosion.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Acleisanthes nevadensis has small, yellow flowers that are clustered together in a head-like shape. The seed is a small, dark brown nut-like structure. The seedlings are slender and have a single, long, narrow leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Acleisanthes nevadensis can be propagated by seed or division. Seeds should be sown in a well-draining, sandy soil mix and kept moist until germination. Division should be done in the spring or fall when the plant is actively growing. The plant should be carefully dug up and divided into smaller clumps which can then be replanted in a moist, sandy soil mix.
