Description

Compsoneura lapidiflora (also called stone-flower guayabillo, among many other common names) is a species of plant in the Zingiberaceae family. It is a shrub or small tree that grows to a height of 3–5 m. It is native to Central America and is found in the tropical wet forests of Costa Rica and Panama. It is found in wet, lowland forests, often near rivers and streams.

Compsoneura lapidiflora is used in traditional medicine for treating digestive ailments, fever, and as an antiseptic. It is also used as a natural insect repellent and to produce incense.

Cultivation and Propagation

Compsoneura lapidiflora is an evergreen shrub that can reach up to 8 feet in height. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Propagation is done by seed, cuttings or layering. To propagate by seed, sow the seeds in a seedbed in the spring. To propagate by cuttings, take a cutting from the tip of a branch and place it in a pot filled with moist potting soil. To propagate by layering, bend a branch to the ground and cover it with soil. Keep the soil moist until the branch takes root.
