It is a large shrub or small tree, growing up to 8 m tall. Its leaves are dark green, leathery, and ovate-oblong in shape. It grows in wet, swampy areas, and is often found near rivers and streams.
Uses & Benefits
Ficus parietalis is used as an ornamental plant in landscaping and as a houseplant. It is also used in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flowers of Ficus parietalis are small and yellowish-green. The seeds are small, round and black. The seedlings are small and have a single, oval-shaped leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Ficus parietalis is an evergreen tree that can reach heights of up to 30 feet. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Propagation is done by cuttings or air layering. Cuttings should be taken from the tips of branches and placed in a rooting medium such as perlite or vermiculite. Air layering can be done by removing a section of bark from a branch and wrapping it in moist sphagnum moss. The moss should be kept moist until roots form.
