Description
Lophocolea laceristipula (also called Lacerate-tipped Lophocolea, among many other common names) is a small liverwort species with a thallus that is divided into small, lacerate-tipped lobes and a pale green color. It is native to the tropical regions of Africa, Asia, and the Americas. It is often found in moist, shady habitats such as forests and grasslands.
Uses & Benefits
Lophocolea laceristipula has been used as a food source by some cultures, and its leaves are used in traditional medicine to treat skin conditions and to reduce inflammation.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Lophocolea laceristipula has small, yellowish-green flowers with four petals and a four-lobed calyx. The seeds are small and dark brown in color. The seedlings are small and have a single, oval-shaped leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Lophocolea laceristipula can be propagated by division of the plant or by spore sowing. It prefers moist, shady habitats and is best grown in a potting mix that is rich in organic matter. It can be grown in full sun or partial shade and should be kept moist, but not wet. It is best to water the plant in the morning to allow the leaves to dry before nightfall.
Where to Find Lophocolea laceristipula
Lophocolea laceristipula is native to Central and South America and can be found in moist, shady areas.
