Description

Persea brevipes (also called Shortleaf Bay, and Texas Bay, among many other common names) is a species of evergreen tree native to the southeastern United States. It typically grows to a height of 10–15 m (33–49 ft) and has a broad, rounded crown. It is found in wet and dry forests, as well as in swamps and marshes.

Persea brevipes is a medium-sized tree, up to 25 m tall, with a trunk diameter of up to 50 cm. It is native to the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil. It is cultivated as an ornamental tree in parks and gardens, and is also used for timber and essential oils. Propagation is by seed or cuttings.
