Codonoboea elata (also called 'tall Codonoboea', among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the family Rubiaceae. It is native to South America, where it is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. It is a shrub, growing in open woodlands and scrubland.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Codonoboea elata is white in colour and has a bell-shaped corolla. The seeds of this plant are small, black and round in shape. The seedlings of this plant have a single stem with small, lanceolate leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Codonoboea elata is a perennial shrub that grows in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained soils. Propagation is done by seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in spring in a seed tray and covered lightly with soil. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, they can be transplanted into individual pots and grown on in a greenhouse or cold frame until they are large enough to plant out in their permanent positions. Cuttings can also be taken in spring or summer and rooted in a pot of moist compost.
