Vicia araucana (also called Chilean vetch, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae. It is a climbing or trailing herbaceous perennial plant, growing to 0.5–1 m tall. It is native to Chile and Argentina. It is found in dry, open habitats such as grassland, scrub, and rocky hillsides.

Vicia araucana is used as a forage crop for livestock, as well as a soil cover crop. It is also used as a green manure crop, as it helps to improve the soil fertility and structure.

Vicia araucana is a hardy annual that is easy to grow from seed. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Sow the seeds directly in the garden in early spring, or start them indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Plant the seedlings 12-18 inches apart. The plant will bloom in late spring or early summer and will self-seed if left to go to seed. Deadheading will help to prolong the blooming period.
