Description
Eriocaulon paludicola (also called Marsh Pipewort, among many other common names) is a perennial herbaceous plant native to India, China, and Japan. It grows in wet, marshy areas and prefers full sun or partial shade. It has slender, grass-like leaves and small, white flowers that bloom in the summer.
Uses & Benefits
Eriocaulon paludicola is used as an emollient, astringent, and antiseptic. It has anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties and can be used to treat skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. It can also be used as a natural dye for fabrics and as a natural preservative.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Eriocaulon paludicola has small yellow flowers that are arranged in a head-like cluster. The seeds are small and black, and the seedlings have a single pair of leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Eriocaulon paludicola can be propagated by division of the rhizomes or by sowing the seeds. The rhizomes should be divided in spring or early summer. The seeds should be sown in a well-drained soil in a sunny location. The seedlings should be thinned out when they are large enough to handle, and should be transplanted when they are large enough to be handled easily.
