Description

Gaultheria erecta (also called Creeping Wintergreen, among many other common names) is an evergreen shrub native to the temperate regions of North America. It typically grows in shady, moist, acidic soil and can reach heights of up to 1 meter.

Uses & Benefits

Gaultheria erecta is used as an ornamental plant, for its edible berries, and for its medicinal properties. It is also used to make jams, jellies, and other food products.

Flower, Seeds and Seedlings

Gaultheria erecta has small, white, bell-shaped flowers that hang from the stem in clusters. The flowers are followed by small, round, red berries that contain the seeds. The seeds are very small and require stratification to germinate. The seedlings have a single pair of cotyledons that are oval in shape.
