Description
Terminalia surigaensis (also called 'Surigao Terminalia', among many other common names) is a small, epiphytic orchid with a single, erect, cane-like stem, up to 8 inches (20 cm) tall. It is native to Costa Rica and Panama, where it grows in wet montane forests at elevations of 3,000–5,000 feet (900–1,500 m).
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Terminalia surigaensis flowers are small, yellow-green in color, and have five petals. The seeds are small, black, and oval-shaped. The seedlings are small, with oval-shaped leaves and a thin stem.
Cultivation and Propagation
Terminalia surigaensis is a medium-sized tree that can reach up to 25 meters in height and 1 meter in diameter. It is found in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Islands. It prefers moist, well-drained soils and can tolerate some drought. It can be propagated from seed or cuttings. The seeds should be planted in a well-prepared seedbed and kept moist until germination. Cuttings should be taken from healthy, mature plants and planted in a well-draining medium.
