Description
Cerastium texanum (also called Texas Mouse-ear Chickweed, among many other common names) is an annual herb native to North America. It is found in meadows, grasslands, and disturbed habitats.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Cerastium texanum has small white flowers with five petals. The seeds are small, dark brown and oval-shaped. The seedlings are small and have thin, light green leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Cerastium texanum is a low-growing, mat-forming, evergreen perennial that typically grows to only 1” tall but spreads to 12” wide or more. It is native to rocky places in Texas. It features small, white, star-like flowers in spring. It is best grown in well-drained, average to poor soils in full sun to part shade. Propagation is by seed or division.
