Description
Opuntia aequatorialis (also called Equatorial Prickly Pear, among many other common names) is a species of cactus native to the Chihuahuan Desert in Mexico. It is a low-growing cactus with yellow flowers and yellow-green fruits. It grows in rocky hills and mountains at elevations of up to 2,000 m (6,500 ft).
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flowers of Opuntia aequatorialis are yellow in color and have a pleasant scent. The seed is a small, black, round nut. The seedlings have a single, long, narrow leaf that is green in color.
Cultivation and Propagation
Opuntia aequatorialis can be propagated from seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in a well-draining soil mix and kept moist. Cuttings should be taken in spring or summer and allowed to dry for a few days before planting in a well-draining soil mix. Keep the soil moist until the cuttings have rooted.

Opuntia aequatorialis is native to Ecuador and can be found in the provinces of Azuay, Bolivar, Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, El Oro, Galapagos, Guayas, Los Rios, Manabi, Morona-Santiago, Napo, Pastaza, Pichincha, and Tungurahua.
