Description
Gymnocalycium alboareolatum (also called White-spotted Chin Cactus, among many other common names) is a perennial, succulent, cactus native to Argentina. It grows in dry, open grasslands and has short, globular stems with white, spiny areoles and small, yellowish-white flowers.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flowers of Gymnocalycium alboareolatum are small, white or yellowish, and grow in clusters. The seeds are small, black, and oval-shaped. The seedlings are small and green, with a single pair of leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Gymnocalycium alboareolatum can be propagated by seed or stem cuttings. For seed propagation, sow the seeds in a well-draining potting mix and keep the soil moist. For stem cuttings, take a cutting from the stem and place it in a potting mix. Keep the soil moist and in a warm, sunny location. Once the cutting has rooted, it can be transplanted into a larger pot or into the garden.
