Description
Racinaea wuelfinghoffii (also called Wuelfinghoff's Racinaea, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the Bromeliaceae family. It is native to Ecuador and Colombia. It is found in humid montane forests at elevations of 1,200–2,400 m.
Uses & Benefits
Racinaea wuelfinghoffii is used as an ornamental plant in gardens, as well as for its medicinal properties. It is also used as a food source, as the leaves are edible and can be used in salads or cooked as a vegetable.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Racinaea wuelfinghoffii is a small, white, star-shaped flower with five petals and yellow anthers. The seed is a small, black, round seed. The seedlings are small, green, and have a single leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Racinaea wuelfinghoffii is a perennial bromeliad that can be propagated from offsets. Offsets should be taken from healthy plants and placed in a moist, well-draining soil mix. The offsets should be kept in a warm, humid environment until they have rooted. Once rooted, the plants can be transplanted into individual containers and grown in a sunny location.
Where to Find Racinaea wuelfinghoffii
Randia brachysiphon can be found in the tropical forests of Central and South America.
