Encholirium oreadicum (also called Encholirium, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant native to South America. It is a perennial herb with erect or decumbent stems and grows up to 30 cm in height. It is found in moist, shady places in the temperate and subtropical regions of South America.
Uses & Benefits
Encholirium oreadicum is used as an ornamental plant, for its essential oils, and as a source of food for livestock. It is also used in traditional medicine.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Encholirium oreadicum has yellow flowers with a diameter of about 2 cm. The seeds are small, round and black. The seedlings are small and thin with a single leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Encholirium oreadicum is a small, rosette-forming succulent that grows up to 10 cm tall. It is best propagated from stem cuttings or offsets. To propagate from stem cuttings, cut a stem with a few leaves and allow it to dry for a few days before planting it in well-draining soil. To propagate from offsets, carefully remove the offset from the parent plant and allow it to dry for a few days before planting it in well-draining soil. Water the soil lightly and keep it in a warm, sunny spot.
