Description
Deparia jiulungensis (also called Jiulong fern, among many other common names) is a perennial fern native to East Asia. It grows in moist, shady habitats, and has long, narrow fronds and small, brownish-purple spores.

Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Deparia jiulungensis has small, greenish-brown flowers, which are followed by small, black, round seeds. The seedlings are small, with two small, pointed cotyledons.
Cultivation and Propagation
Deparia jiulungensis can be propagated by division or by seed. Division is best done in spring or early summer. Seeds should be sown in spring in a cold frame and will usually germinate in 1 - 3 months at 15°C. When large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for at least their first winter. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts.
