Description

Vernonia aschersonioides (also called Ascherson's ironweed, among many other common names) is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the western United States. It has a basal rosette of leaves and a single stem with a few branches. The leaves are lanceolate and have a white-woolly underside. The flowers are purple and have a yellow center. It grows in dry grasslands, scrublands, and rocky slopes.
