Description
Ozothamnus leptophyllus (also called small-leaved everlasting, among many other common names) is a perennial shrub native to Australia. It is found in dry, open areas such as woodlands, grasslands, and shrublands. Its leaves are small and narrow, and its white flowers form in clusters at the ends of its branches.
Uses & Benefits
Ozothamnus leptophyllus is used as an ornamental plant and for its medicinal properties. It is used to treat fever, malaria, and other diseases.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Ozothamnus leptophyllus is white and star-shaped. The seed is small and black. The seedlings are thin and have small, light green leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Ozothamnus leptophyllus is a small, evergreen shrub, growing to 1 m (3 ft) tall. It is best propagated from cuttings taken in late spring or early summer. Take cuttings from the current season’s growth, about 10 cm (4 in) long, and remove the lower leaves. Dip the cut end in hormone rooting powder and place in a pot of moistened cutting compost. Place the pot in a warm, bright position but out of direct sunlight. Keep the compost moist and in a few weeks the cuttings should have rooted. When the new plants are well established, pot them on into individual pots and grow on in a cool, light position.
