Description
Pinanga fractiflexa (also called Fractiflex Palm, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the Arecaceae family. It is a small to medium-sized palm, growing up to 8 m tall. It is native to Southeast Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. It is found in lowland rainforests, often near rivers and streams.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Pinanga fractiflexa has small, yellow-green flowers with three petals. The seeds are small, black and round. The seedlings have a single, short stem with two to three leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Pinanga fractiflexa is best grown in a moist, well-drained soil in partial shade. It is tolerant of a wide range of soils, from sandy to clay, and can tolerate some drought. It is also tolerant of salt spray. Propagation is by division or by seed.
