Description

Coccothrinax alta (also called High Thatch Palm, among many other common names) is a species of palm tree native to Cuba and the Bahamas. It is a slow-growing, solitary palm that can reach heights of up to 10 m (33 ft). Its trunk is covered with a dense mat of silvery-gray fibers. It is found in dry, rocky, limestone soils in coastal areas and in dry, sandy soils in the interior.

Cultivation and Propagation

Coccothrinax alta is a slow-growing, evergreen palm native to the Caribbean. It prefers moist, sandy soils and is best grown in full sun. Propagation is usually done by seed, which should be planted in the spring after the last frost. The seed should be planted 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep and should be kept moist until germination occurs. Once established, Coccothrinax alta requires little maintenance.
