Description
Anadendrum ellipticum (also called Elliptic Anadendrum, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the Rubiaceae family. It is an evergreen shrub with small white flowers that grows in dry grasslands and meadows. It is native to the Mediterranean region.
Uses & Benefits
Anadendrum ellipticum is used as an ornamental plant and for its medicinal properties. It is used to treat skin diseases, as a diuretic, and for its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Anadendrum ellipticum has small white flowers, and its seeds are small and black. Its seedlings are thin and delicate.
Cultivation and Propagation
Anadendrum ellipticum can be propagated by seed or division. Seeds should be sown in spring or early summer in a cold frame. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer. Division can be done in spring or autumn. Larger clumps can be replanted direct into their permanent positions, though it is best to pot up smaller clumps and grow them on in a cold frame until they are rooting well. Plant them out in the spring.
Where to Find Anadendrum ellipticum
Anadendrum ellipticum can be found in open woods, thickets, and along roadsides in the southeastern United States.
