Description
Amorphophallus rostratus (also called Snake Palm, among many other common names) is a large, herbaceous perennial native to tropical regions of Asia. It has a basal rosette of large, paddle-shaped leaves and a tall, fleshy flower stalk. It grows in wet meadows, marshes, and other wetland habitats.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Amorphophallus rostratus has a large, white flower with a yellow center. The seed is a dark brown, oval-shaped seed with a hard outer shell. The seedlings are small, green, and have a single leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Amorphophallus rostratus is a tuberous perennial that can be propagated by division. The tuber should be divided into smaller pieces, each with at least one eye. The pieces should be planted in a well-draining soil mix and kept in a warm, dry area until they have rooted. Once the pieces have rooted, they can be transplanted into a larger pot with a well-draining soil mix.
