Description
Ilex magnifructa (also called Magnificent-Fruited Holly, among many other common names) is an evergreen shrub or small tree native to the Himalayas, China, and Taiwan. It grows in moist, shady forests and can reach up to 10 meters in height. Its leaves are glossy, dark green, and leathery, and its white flowers are followed by red berries.
Uses & Benefits
Ilex magnifructa is used as an ornamental plant for its attractive foliage and berries. It is also used for its medicinal properties, such as treating fever, headaches, and stomach ailments.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Ilex magnifructa has small, white flowers that bloom in the spring and are followed by bright red berries in the fall. The seeds are small and black. Seedlings are small and delicate, with light green leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Ilex magnifructa can be propagated by seed, cuttings, or layering. Seeds should be sown in a moist, well-drained, sandy soil mix and kept in a warm, humid environment.
