Description

Acronema bryophilum (also called Moss-Loving Acronema, among many other common names) is a perennial herb that grows up to 1 m tall. It is native to tropical Africa and is found in wetland habitats, such as marshes, swamps and wet meadows. The leaves are linear and up to 25 cm long.

Cultivation and Propagation

Acronema bryophilum can be propagated by seed, which should be sown as soon as it is ripe in a cold frame. It can also be propagated by division of the clumps in early spring or autumn. The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and requires well-drained soil. The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils and can grow in very alkaline soils. It cannot grow in the shade and requires moist soil.
