On June 27-28, the second China Mango Industry Conference was held in Baise City, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Zhang Xingwang, member of the party group and vice minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, attended the opening ceremony of the conference and delivered a speech. The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s People’s Government Vice Chairman and member of the party group, Xu Xianhui, also attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
The meeting pointed out that the mango sector is all about the increment of farmers’ income in this warmer region and ensuring good life among the people. In recent years, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in conjunction with Guangxi and other relevant provinces, carried out an in-depth study. Their aim was to implement the spirit of the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping with an intent to do everything possible to boost the hot region’s resources and promote the development and growth of the industry. The main tropical crops planted in an area of about 70 million mu (11.2 million acres), with a total output of 36 million tons, include litchi, longan, and mango. The region will up its industrial scale to rank among the world’s forefront, win the battle against poverty and help revitalize the countryside’s livelihoods.
The Chinese mango industry has become one of the most important in the world, and has shown strong development potential here. Therefore, the next step is to continuously strengthen its foundations, enhance the development momentum, promote industrial upgrading, and bring high-quality development in the mango sector.
The conference also held the mango industry’s high-quality development initiative activities. Besides, it released the Baise mango price index and mango research significance results. On the sidelines, relevant units and enterprises held a mango industry project’s signing ceremony. A key dialogue on the high-quality development of the sector, the annual meeting of China Mango Industry Green Development Alliance, the opening of China Mango Expo and other activities, were all held simultaneously.
The conference was co-sponsored by the South Asia Tropical Crops Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, in partnership with the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agriculture, and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Also represented was the CPC Baise Municipal Committee and the Baise Municipal People’s Government. The meeting also witnessed the participation of the representatives of domestic mango industry authorities at all levels, industry organizations, enterprises, research institutes and large planters.
