1. Striped Sea Bass
This ornate fish abounds on the St. Lawrence River and the Gulf of Mexico. It has appealing black stripes on its upper sides from gills to the tailfin. It is a small-to-medium fish that weighs between 5 and 20 pounds. It inhabits Atlantic waters from South Carolina to New England.

2. White Sea Bass
White sea bass or Croaker: this fish moves in numerous places in Alaska and Pacific coast where there is plenty of seaweed such as kelp. Like striped sea bass, this silver-colored fish is ornate and flashy. California’s fishermen usually harvest the species around spring through summer when they are migrating from the warming north Pacific to cooler waters southward. Most specimens average 20 to 30 pounds in weight but can reach 90 pounds.

3. Black Sea Bass
The main sea bass species in the United States is the black sea bass. It is a highly migratory fish that lives in the mid-Atlantic around Cape Cod in spring and goes south to Florida in fall. A mature sea bass grows to 2 feet long and weighs 9 pounds.
Total American catches of black sea bass in the mid-Atlantic, south Atlantic and inland waters were 5 million pounds in 2022, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) data.
The current average price of whole wild-caught black sea bass in the United States is $42.99 per 2 pounds or $21.5 per pound. The most expensive filet cost upwards of $36 per pound.
